The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has refuted claims circulating in a viral video that its fuel burns faster than other brands, calling the allegations baseless and misleading.
In a statement issued on Saturday by Olufemi Soneye, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, the company described the claims as “unverified and amateur research” lacking scientific credibility and professional oversight.
“NNPC reaffirms that its fuel is carefully formulated with one of the best compositions, ensuring optimal efficiency, durability, and environmental sustainability for consumers,” the statement read.
The company further clarified that a significant portion of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold at its retail stations in Lagos, where the video allegedly originated, is sourced from the Dangote Refinery, which adheres to strict industry standards.
NNPC condemned the video, describing it as an attempt by “economic saboteurs” to mislead the public and tarnish its reputation. The company also warned that it would take legal action against individuals or groups spreading false information about its operations.
“We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation designed to undermine our operations and mislead Nigerians. Those engaged in such malicious activities will be held fully accountable under the law,” the statement added.
The corporation urged Nigerians to rely on verified sources for accurate information and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the availability, affordability, and quality of fuel while maintaining global industry standards.
