A chilling case in Dubai has raised alarm over suspected sex trafficking operations targeting young women. Ukrainian model Maria Kovalchuk, 20, was found severely injured and barely conscious on the side of a road after disappearing for 10 days. Her family and Russian media suspect she may have been lured into a sex trafficking ring and subjected to extreme abuse before being discarded.
Mysterious Disappearance and Horrific Discovery
Kovalchuk told friends she was attending a hotel party in Dubai but went silent shortly after. She was scheduled to fly to Thailand two days later but never made her flight. Her family heard nothing from her for over a week, sparking fears of foul play.
Ten days later, she was discovered with life-threatening injuries, including a broken spine and limbs. Reports state she was unable to speak when found, further fueling speculation that she endured prolonged abuse.
Fears of a Sex Trafficking Network
Investigators and family members suspect Kovalchuk may have been trafficked and forced into sexual slavery. Russian media reports suggest she was “raped for several days” before being thrown onto the roadside.
The case has drawn attention to alleged underground parties involving wealthy men, sometimes referred to as “Porta Potty” parties, where women—often influencers and models—are reportedly paid exorbitant sums to engage in degrading and abusive acts. These parties are believed to be part of a larger, hidden network exploiting young women.
A Growing Concern for Influencers and Models
Before her disappearance, Kovalchuk allegedly met two men from the “modeling business” in Dubai and agreed to stay with them overnight. Shortly after, she vanished.
Lawyer and activist Katya Gordon has issued a warning to influencers and young women, urging them to avoid such invitations.
“The scandal with Porta Potty parties has been raging for over a year. There are videos circulating where sheiks allegedly beat girls, cut their hair, and subject them to inhumane treatment,” Gordon said.
“Girls, women, and their mothers—do not go to such events for money. You could even get killed.”
Dubai Authorities Dismiss Trafficking Allegations
Dubai police have denied any criminal involvement, stating that Kovalchuk’s injuries resulted from a fall at a construction site. However, her family strongly disputes this claim, believing she was held captive and abused before being discarded.
Kovalchuk remains hospitalized, undergoing multiple surgeries. Her mother has traveled from Norway to be by her side, expressing hope that she will fully recover.
Kovalchuk’s case highlights the dark underbelly of sex trafficking and exploitation that many young women face in glamorous destinations like Dubai. With more models and influencers being lured into dangerous situations, activists are calling for stronger protections and awareness to prevent further tragedies.
