Popular Nollywood actress, Laide Bakare, has been honoured by the **United Nations International Peace and Governing Council with the prestigious title of Ambassador for Peace.
The award, announced on Friday, May 9, 2025, celebrates Bakare’s consistent efforts in promoting peace, understanding, and global cooperation. The council described the recognition as a testament to her long-standing dedication to peaceful advocacy and community engagement.
“I’m deeply humbled to receive this recognition,” Bakare said. “Peace is the foundation for progress and prosperity. I’ll continue to work towards promoting understanding and cooperation among nations and communities.”
In her statement, the 44-year-old actress also called for greater inclusion of women in politics and leadership, highlighting that true societal progress depends on representing all voices.
“Women make up a significant portion of our population. Their voices deserve to be heard. We need more women in leadership positions to bring diverse perspectives and ideas to the table,” she added.
Laide Bakare currently serves as the Senior Special Assistant to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Entertainment, Arts, Culture, and Tourism. In this role, she continues to push for cultural growth, youth empowerment, and peaceful coexistence.
The Ambassador for Peace Award is presented to individuals who demonstrate outstanding contributions to fostering peace, tolerance, and mutual respect. Bakare’s influence within and beyond the entertainment industry earned her this honour.
