Lagos Shines Bright Among 2025 World’s Top Cities

Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, has been named one of the world’s best cities to visit in 2025 by global media company Time Out. Ranking 41st on the annual list, Lagos joins Cape Town and Marrakech as the only African cities to make the cut this year.

Each year, Time Out surveys thousands of city dwellers around the world to assess key aspects of urban life—ranging from food and culture to social atmosphere and community engagement. The final list is shaped by both public feedback and expert recommendations.

Why Lagos Made the List

Lagos stood out for its vibrant social life and cultural influence, with 72% of residents saying it’s easy to make friends and connect socially. The city’s lively energy, diverse population, and creative scene—especially in music and film—contribute to its growing reputation as a global cultural hub.

Lagos continues to serve as a gateway for business and innovation in West Africa, drawing both local and international attention for its bustling tech, entertainment, and arts industries.

Africa’s Top Three Cities in 2025

1. Cape Town – Ranked 1 Globally

Crowned as the world’s best city this year, Cape Town was praised for its natural beauty, vibrant food scene, and high levels of happiness among residents. A stunning mix of beach, mountain, and city living makes it a unique destination.

2. Marrakech – Ranked 37

This Moroccan city won over travelers for its blend of tradition and modern appeal. Its evolving food culture and community warmth continue to attract global interest.

3. Lagos – Ranked 41

Beyond its challenges, Lagos remains a city full of possibilities. From Afrobeat to Nollywood, its influence stretches far beyond Nigeria’s borders.

This recognition marks a major moment for Lagos, affirming its growing status on the world stage and encouraging further exploration of its rich culture, entrepreneurial drive, and unique urban pulse.
