Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has donated a total of ₦20 million to support health and education projects in Kubwa, Abuja. His donation follows his recent return from the Vatican, where he attended the historic inauguration of Pope Leo XIV.
On arrival in Nigeria, Obi visited the construction site of the Anglican Hospital in Kubwa, a developing healthcare facility spearheaded by the Anglican Diocese of Kubwa. During the visit, he praised the efforts of the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Revd. Duke T. Akamisoko, and announced a ₦10 million donation to aid the hospital’s ongoing development.
Describing the Pope’s message as “inspiring,” Obi noted that His Holiness’s homily on fighting poverty globally resonated with his own beliefs. “The Pontiff’s homily reaffirmed my belief that eradicating poverty requires deliberate sacrifice and consistent investment in critical development sectors – particularly health, education, and poverty alleviation,” he said.
Continuing his outreach, Obi also visited the Anglican Comprehensive Secondary School, also in Kubwa and operated by the same diocese. There, he made another ₦10 million donation, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to education as a tool for national progress.
“Education, healthcare, and lifting people out of poverty remain the three most powerful tools for building a better society,” he said. “I remain committed to promoting each of them because they form the most effective path to securing a prosperous future for our children and for our country.”
Obi’s gesture has drawn attention to the urgent need for more investment—both private and public—in sectors that directly impact the lives of ordinary Nigerians. His donation comes at a time when many communities continue to face challenges in accessing quality healthcare and education.
Known for his advocacy for good governance and sustainable development, Obi’s actions reflect his consistent message during the 2023 elections and beyond—investing in people is the best way to build a strong and prosperous nation.
His visit and donations have also sparked positive responses from community leaders and residents in Kubwa, who expressed gratitude for the much-needed support.
As conversations around Nigeria’s development continue, Obi’s hands-on approach underscores a broader call for other leaders and philanthropists to channel resources into impactful areas that improve citizens’ lives.
