Davido Visits President Tinubu, Sparks Political Buzz

Nigerian music sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja on Monday, May 26, 2025.

The visit, which sparked public and media interest, featured Davido in the company of artiste manager Ubi Franklin and socialite Cubana Chief Priest. Photos from the engagement were shared on Instagram by Franklin, while footage of the encounter also surfaced online.

In the video, Davido is seen introducing his companions to the president, saying, “They are both your members, sir, they are APC.” This brief moment triggered conversation about Davido’s political neutrality, given his previous silence on Tinubu’s administration and earlier affiliations with opposition figures.

During the meeting, Ubi Franklin recalled his involvement in Tinubu’s 2023 presidential campaign. “I travelled to 15 states with you during the campaign,” he said. The president, smiling, replied, “Very good. We succeeded and made it to the presidency.”

Cubana Chief Priest added confidently, “We will succeed again in 2027,” echoing support for a possible second term for President Tinub

Although the specific purpose of Davido’s visit remains undisclosed, it came shortly after his separate engagement with Abbas Tajudeen, Speaker of the House of Representatives. Tajudeen praised Davido’s influence, describing their meeting as an “engaging and rich conversation” focused on how music can unify and inspire the nation.

The speaker also commended the superstar for using his platform to highlight Nigerian culture and empower youth through philanthropy and global visibility.

The back-to-back meetings with high-profile political figures have led to widespread speculation about Davido’s evolving role in national affairs, especially as the lines between entertainment and politics continue to blur in Nigeria.

Despite the attention surrounding the visit, Davido has yet to release an official statement. However, the public is already reacting, with social media users debating whether the singer’s appearance at the villa signals political alignment or was simply a symbolic engagement.

Known for his international success and vocal support of youth-driven causes, Davido has traditionally maintained a non-partisan public image. His visits to both the speaker and the president may reflect a growing interest in leveraging cultural influence to shape public discourse at the highest levels.

As Nigeria prepares for another political season, the involvement of influential figures like Davido in governance-related discussions suggests that celebrities may play increasingly visible roles in shaping the country’s socio-political narrative.
