Enugu Govt Demolishes Fake Worship Center Hiding Criminals

On Thursday, June 5, 2025, the Enugu State Government took action by demolishing a suspected criminal hideout that was operating under the cover of a worship center in Onicha-Enugu-Ezike, located in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area.

The building was run by a self-proclaimed prophet named Chinedu Ezedike. Investigations revealed that this place was not a real religious center but was being used for illegal activities, including ritual practices, kidnappings, and other crimes that have caused insecurity in the community.

Officials from the government confirmed that the center had no legitimate religious function. Instead, it served as a secret base for organized crimes that threatened the safety of residents in the area.

This demolition is part of a wider effort by the Enugu State government to fight crime by targeting fake pastors, native doctors, spiritualists, and others who misuse religion or traditional beliefs to carry out illegal acts.

Local people, who spoke anonymously, praised the government’s bold move. They said this action sends a clear warning that crime, no matter how well-hidden, will not be accepted in Enugu State.

One resident said, “This shows that the government is serious about stopping crime and protecting the lives and properties of its citizens.”

The government’s crackdown aims to restore peace and security in the region by removing illegal centers that hide criminals under the cover of religion.

This move has been welcomed by many who believe that such places only bring fear and unrest to the community.

The Enugu State government continues to work hard to protect its people from crime and ensure that genuine worship centers are the only ones allowed to operate.
