We invite comrades, readers, learners, artists, and freedom dreamers across the globe to a global Zoom gathering honouring the revolutionary life and work of Mwalimu Prof. Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o—a towering thinker, storyteller, and architect of epistemic resistance.
Ngũgĩ’s life work is a call to dismantle colonial languages of domination and reclaim African ways of knowing, seeing, being, and speaking. Through his powerful commitment to writing in Gikuyu and championing African languages, he radically challenged the foundations of colonial education and cultural erasure. His vision has empowered generations to reconnect with their mother tongues and to rebuild knowledge systems rooted in dignity and self-determination.
This gathering is not only a tribute—it is a collective space of remembrance, resistance, and reimagining. Together, we will reflect on Mwalimu Ngũgĩ’s impact in our lives and struggles for justice:
How have his words shaped your thinking, activism, or sense of self?
How do we honour his legacy across our movements, classrooms, communities, and languages?
What does the way forward look like through his teachings?
We welcome contributions in the form of reflections, readings, songs, testimonies, and collective remembering. This is a space to speak his name, celebrate his legacy, and envision liberatory futures.
