NDLEA Arrests Lagos Woman With 2.2kg Cocaine En Route India

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 43-year-old woman, Adekoya Adebukonla Mary, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. She was caught with 2.20 kilograms of cocaine hidden in her suitcase while trying to board a Qatar Airways flight to India on June 16, 2025, under the pretense of having fibroid surgery.

Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, said, “When her luggage was searched, two large parcels of cocaine weighing 2.20kg were found concealed in the walls of the suitcase she was carrying.” Adekoya admitted she planned to smuggle the drugs for money, disguising her trip as a medical one. Authorities linked her to a drug baron currently on the run.

In related operations, NDLEA officials intercepted 1.3 kilograms of a potent cannabis strain hidden in dresses and found 850 grams of cocaine in cloth hangers at a courier service. In Bauchi, over a million opioid pills were seized, and several suspects were arrested across various states for drug-related offenses.

The agency also destroyed more than 4,200 kilograms of cannabis in Edo State during a raid. Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, the NDLEA Chairman, stated, “Our officers continue to demonstrate remarkable dedication in our collective fight against narcotics.” He urged the public to remain vigilant in the effort against drug trafficking.
