Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Joseph Dosu, narrowly escaped death in a road accident in Lagos on October 2, 2024. Sharing his experience on Facebook, Dosu wrote, “To God be the glory, another death escape by Grace and Mercy of God,” explaining that his car was crushed by a Mack truck loaded with iron at a fuel station near Ojodu Berger.
This incident is a chilling reminder of Dosu’s near-fatal car accident in 1997, which ended his promising football career. After his 1996 Olympic gold win with Nigeria, Dosu was forced to retire at 23 due to injuries sustained in that earlier crash.
Despite these setbacks, Dosu’s football legacy remains strong. He helped Julius Berger win the 1996 Nigerian FA Cup and was the only home-based player in Nigeria’s Olympic team. After retirement, he has remained active in football by managing his own football club, which participated in the 1XBET Cup recently.
