The Kwara State Police Command has arrested five suspects linked to the murder of 46-year-old Comrade Adebayo Olanrewaju Mathew in the Ita-Elepa area of Ilorin West Local Government Area. The incident occurred last Sunday night during a confrontation between Mathew and local security personnel.
Witnesses reported that Mathew, a graduate of the University of Ilorin, was attacked with machetes after a heated argument as he was walking home. He was left injured at the scene.
On Tuesday, police took action and apprehended the suspects, which include the community chairman and two local security men. All five individuals have been transferred to the State Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Ilorin for further questioning.
According to DSP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, the arrests were confirmed, emphasizing that only five men were taken into custody with no women involved. She noted that the suspects were brought in on Wednesday night and that investigations would begin today (Thursday).
The police have not released further details regarding the circumstances of the attack or the condition of the victim before his death. The investigation is ongoing.
