Iran Signals Prepared Response to Israel Following Recent Attacks

Iran has announced its readiness to “respond” to recent Israeli military actions, according to Ali Larijani, a senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The statement was reported by Iran’s Tasnim news agency on Sunday and reflects heightened tensions between the two nations.

This development follows Israeli airstrikes on October 26 targeting Iranian military sites. The strikes, according to the Israeli Defence Forces, were a response to Tehran’s earlier missile attacks on Israel, during which Iran reportedly launched 200 ballistic missiles. Israel declared its operation successful, warning Iran against retaliation.

Iranian media reported that the Israeli airstrikes caused explosions in Tehran and surrounding military bases during the early hours of the attack. Iran claimed its air defense systems countered the strikes with limited damage reported in Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces.

The escalating hostility comes in the wake of the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas, the Gaza-based Palestinian militant group supported by Iran. The conflict has drawn in other Iran-backed factions, including Lebanon’s Hezbollah, further fueling regional instability.

Iran has reiterated its intention to deliver a “proportional response” to the Israeli actions, intensifying fears of a broader conflict. The situation remains volatile as both nations continue to exchange warnings and threats.

The international community is closely monitoring the unfolding events, given the potential implications for regional and global security.
