Katsina – Five notorious bandit leaders, who had long terrorized communities in Katsina State, have surrendered and laid down their arms following intensified military operations.
The individuals, identified as Abu Radda, Umar Black, Abdullahi Lankai, Jijjige, and Dabar Musa Dan Gandu, operated from the Jibia axis and were responsible for attacks in Batsari, Safana, and Jibia Local Government Areas.
According to a security analyst and counterinsurgency expert, the sustained military onslaught against bandit groups forced the armed leaders to seek peace. They voluntarily disarmed and handed over their weapons to the military.
During the surrender, the ex-bandits appealed to the government for alternative means of livelihood. They requested the construction of markets, hospitals, and access to clean water to support their reintegration into society.
The surrender was facilitated by the National Community for Security and Societal Advancement in Katsina State (NCSOSACK), led by Comrade Hamisa S. Batsari. The group has been engaging affected communities in security dialogues to promote peace and stability.
As part of their surrender, the former bandits released several hostages who had been kidnapped during their criminal activities. They also vowed to embrace peace and permanently abandon banditry.
While top military officials welcomed the surrender, they emphasized that operations against unrepentant bandits will continue until total peace is restored in Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, and the entire North West region.
The development marks a significant step in the fight against insecurity in the region, as authorities continue efforts to restore stability and protect communities from further attacks.
