Atiku Accuses Senate President Akpabio of Corruption and Women Abuse

Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of both corruption and misconduct against women.

Atiku made the allegations during a recent interview with Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie on the program Untold Stories, where he reacted to the latest developments in Nigeria’s political scene. These include sexual harassment allegations against Akpabio and the National Assembly’s swift approval of President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

“Not only is he corrupt, but he is also in the habit of abusing women,” Atiku stated. “I wasn’t surprised that the state of emergency was approved by the National Assembly. I’ve always believed the leadership is corrupt, and I make no apologies for saying it.”

Atiku also said that Akpabio’s behavior was not new. “The Senate President has been known for such actions even back when he was a governor,” he added.

His comments come after Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan publicly accused Akpabio of harassing her and denying her certain rights after she rejected his alleged advances.

These accusations emerge as political tensions worsen in Rivers State, where a power struggle between Governor Sim Fubara and former governor, now FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has deepened. The conflict reached the state House of Assembly, prompting President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency, suspend Governor Fubara for six months, and appoint a sole administrator.

The National Assembly quickly approved the president’s decision, raising concerns over the independence of Nigeria’s political institutions and accountability among its leaders.

The matter continues to spark national conversations about ethics, governance, and the treatment of women in power.
