Anambra Govt to Arraign Akwa Okuko, Eke Hit, and Onye Eze Jesus Today

The Anambra State Government has announced plans to arraign well-known native doctors—Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko; Onyebuchi Okocha, alias Onye Eze Jesus; and another individual from Okija referred to as Eke Hit—in court today, April 4, 2025. This follows their recent arrests over allegations of promoting money rituals and providing charms to criminals.

According to the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the suspects are being charged under the Anambra Homeland Security Law. The government emphasizes that this action is part of a broader effort to curb criminal activities in the state. Dr. Mefor stated that while the administration respects traditional practices, it is committed to prosecuting individuals who exploit such traditions to abet crime.

The arrests have reportedly caused unease among other native doctors in the region, with some going into hiding to avoid potential prosecution. The government has reiterated its determination to restore law and order, warning that any individuals found complicit in criminal activities will face legal consequences.

As the arraignment proceeds, residents and stakeholders in Anambra State are closely monitoring developments, anticipating further actions from the government to address security concerns.
