Dennis Idahosa Dismisses Allegations of Oshiomhole’s Backing in Edo Governorship Race

By Grace Chigbu

Amidst swirling speculations and accusations, Dennis Idahosa, a member of the House of Representatives and gubernatorial aspirant for the Edo State governorship election, has refuted claims of receiving backing from former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole.

Reports from Naija News had indicated that some APC gubernatorial aspirants voiced concerns, alleging that Oshiomhole was supporting Idahosa in the party’s primary, scheduled for today. These aspirants vowed to resist any attempt to impose a candidate on the party.

In response to the allegations, Idahosa spoke exclusively to The PUNCH, asserting that Oshiomhole is not his godfather. He clarified that his visit to the former Edo State governor was merely to inform him of his gubernatorial ambition, a courtesy extended to all aspirants.

“I can tell you that Oshiomhole has not said he is backing me. I only visited him like every other aspirant did to intimate him of my ambition,” Idahosa stated.

Expressing concern over the escalating accusations, Idahosa emphasized the need for unity within the party, stating, “I also do not think that my aspiration should cause disaffection among party members. We are all one, and we should work for the advancement of the party.”

Furthermore, Idahosa issued a stern warning to those levelling allegations of corruption against him, cautioning them to desist from such acts or face legal consequences.

“I have already proved what I can do by some of the constituency projects I have done for his constituency as a Rep member,” Idahosa added, highlighting his track record of service.

As the APC primary unfolds today, the political atmosphere in Edo State remains charged, with aspirants jostling for the party’s ticket amid allegations and counterclaims. The outcome of the primary will significantly shape the trajectory of the gubernatorial race in the state.
