NDLEA Seizes Drugs Worth Millions in Osun State

The Osun Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) revealed on Wednesday that it has confiscated a significant amount of illicit drugs. The seized drugs include 12.4 grams of cocaine, 81.5 kilograms of cannabis, and various other illicit substances.

Nnadi Chidi, the NDLEA state commander, disclosed this information to our correspondent in Osogbo. He stated that three individuals have been apprehended in connection with these drug-related crimes.

Chidi elaborated that among the arrests was Suleiman Usman, a 51-year-old ex-convict from Okini. Usman was found in possession of 28.5 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 4.4 grams of cocaine, 20 tablets of rophynol weighing 6.2 grams, and 812 capsules of tramadol weighing 300 grams during a raid operation conducted on May 1, 2024.

Additionally, on May 13, 2024, NDLEA operatives intercepted a commercial Ash-colored Toyota Avensis Wagon car along the Ode-Omu/Osogbo Road during a motorized patrol. The vehicle, with registration number SMK 131 CX, was carrying a consignment of 9 block-like wraps of cannabis sativa weighing 4.7 kilograms. The driver, Kazeem Alamu, 40 years old, claimed the consignment was intended for delivery to someone in Osogbo.

Further inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of another consignment containing 26.5 grams of cannabis sativa and 6.5 grams of cocaine. Subsequently, Adeyemi Saheed, 33 years old, was arrested while attempting to collect this consignment using an unregistered gold-colored Toyota Corolla. A search of his vehicle revealed an additional 1.5 grams of cocaine.

Chidi commended the efforts of his officers in carrying out these operations. He also issued a warning to drug dealers and couriers in the state, urging them to either relocate or face arrest and prosecution.
