The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has reported a significant surrender of 263 Boko Haram terrorists and their families at the Nigeria-Cameroon border, amid the ongoing Operation Lake Sanity 2. This development, spanning from July 10 to 17, 2024, was detailed in a statement released on Friday by Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Chief Military Public Information Officer, HQ MNJTF in N’Djamena, Chad.
The wave of surrenders began on July 11, 2024, when five terrorists turned themselves in to MNJTF troops in Wulgo, located on the Nigeria-Cameroon border. Preliminary information indicates these individuals originated from Tumbuma and Kutumgulla in Marte Local Government Area, Nigeria.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi’s statement highlighted, “On the same day, Malum Kori Bukar, a 50-year-old, escaped from the Jibilaram hideout and surrendered to the troops. Additionally, 19 terrorists surrendered in Madaya, Extreme North Cameroon, and another 11 in Wulgo from the Tumbuma hideout, in two waves.”
The following day, July 12, 64 individuals, including six adult males, 20 women, and 38 children, surrendered in Bonderi, Cameroon. On July 13, another 27 terrorists surrendered.
The trend of surrenders continued, with 102 individuals surrendering in Bonderi on July 15, comprising 20 adult men, 40 women, and 42 children. On the same day, five more individuals surrendered in Wulgo, two of whom came from the Tumbuma hideout in southern Lake Chad. This was followed by the surrender of two terrorists on July 16. The most recent group, comprising 48 terrorists and their families (10 adult males, 15 females, and 23 children), surrendered on July 17.
Preliminary investigations revealed that all the surrendered individuals are Nigerians. Consequently, they were handed over to the troops of Operation HADIN KAI for further action.
