The Lagos State government and the Borno State government have stated they have not yet received the 20 truckloads of rice promised by the federal government. This was disclosed on Thursday by Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Bisola Olusayan, and Director-General of Borno State Emergency Management Agency, Muhammad Saidu, on the NTA Good Morning program.
Following the recent Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced that the federal government had dispatched 20 truckloads of rice to each of the 36 states to aid vulnerable citizens. Each truckload contains 1,200 bags of 25kg rice, aimed at mitigating current hardships across the nation.
However, Commissioner Olusayan clarified, โWe received palliatives from the federal government a few months ago in April and May. We are expecting another consignment of 20 truckloads of rice, which we have not yet received.โ
Similarly, Muhammad Saidu noted, โWe are yet to receive it but have been informed that it is on the way. We are preparing for its arrival for immediate distribution.โ
Olusayan mentioned that Lagos State has a social register with about 2.8 million residents and plans to involve community leaders in the distribution process. The rice will be rebagged into 10kg portions to reach more people.
Saidu explained that Borno State will use the same distribution method it employs for internally displaced persons, ensuring that even those who have left the camps can still be reached.
