Portable Blames Protesters for Laziness, Says Nigeria’s Fine if You Hustle

Amid widespread economic hardship, controversial Nigerian singer Portable has dismissed the need for a planned nationwide protest. Many Nigerians, through various organizations, are preparing to protest from August 1 to 10, 2024, in response to the rising cost of living under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In an Instagram story post on Thursday, Portable argued that the protest is unwarranted and suggested that those planning to participate are unemployed. He stated, “Nigeria is okay, you are the one who doesn’t make connections,” implying that individuals facing economic difficulties are not making the necessary efforts to improve their situations.

Portable further warned against asking him to perform at the protest, labeling those involved as lazy. “It won’t be well with anyone who tells me to perform during the protest. Don’t you have a producer too? You should also collect the mic and join the protest too,” he stated.

The singer emphasized his focus on his career and financial needs, urging others to do the same. “Please, I need money, I’m hustling. If you take your job seriously, you won’t join the protest. Don’t fight for Nigeria, fight for yourself,” he added.

Portable concluded by stating that there are opportunities available for those who seek them out and maintain loyalty to their helpers. “There is money in some places, you are the one who did not hustle or not loyal to your helper. You are the one who doesn’t make connections. There are people who can help, there are jobs. You are the one who is not working. Fight for yourself.”
