Federal Government to Sell 50kg Rice Bags to Civil Servants First

The Federal Government has announced that civil servants will be the first to buy 50 kilograms (kg) bags of rice at a subsidized price of N40,000. This initiative aims to ensure fair distribution and reduce abuse.

Agriculture Minister Senator Abubakar Kyari revealed this plan during an interview on Channels TV. He explained that public servants have a reliable data system to track the sale and prevent misuse, which was an issue in previous rice distributions.

Kyari noted that after civil servants have been prioritized, the rice will be distributed to other states to ensure equal access across the country.

Previously, Information Minister Mohammed Idris shared that 20 trucks of rice were given to each state governor for distribution to the neediest citizens. This initiative is part of a broader effort by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to ease the cost of living.

Despite these measures, food inflation remains high, with prices for staple items like rice continuing to rise, according to the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics. The government is also addressing this through various policies, including releasing grains from reserves and providing fertilizers to farmers.
