AFRICAN CULTURAL LEADERS’ CONFERENCE – ‘BEYOND CSW65’

ENDING HARMFUL TRADITIONAL GENDER-BASED PRACTICES (April 28, 2021)

Harmful traditional sexual and gender-based violence (GBV)is universal and prevalent across cultures.

Culturally, Violence Against Women is those acts that are explicitly justified or condoned through misuse of cultural, religious, or traditional beliefs, values, and practices that are meant to impose patriarchal control that debase women and girls. There are, for example, Early Child Marriage, Female Genital Mutilations (FGM), and limitations of Women’s development and advancement due to customs and traditional beliefs.

Many of these culturally sanctioned practices are meant to subjugate women. The ripple effect is generational and remains a threat to the national interest, global standards, and human civilization. We are re imagining the role, choice, and potential of Women’s contribution in modern traditional societies.

Speakers include His Royal Majesty King Adedapo Adeen Aderemi, the 46th traditional Ruler of the ancient Kingdom of Ido Osun in the Yoruba Land, and the Convenor General of the African Royal Kingdoms(The ARK), Her Royal Highness Queen Sylvia Nagginda,The Nnabagereka (Queen) of the historical Kingdom of Buganda in Uganda (Keynote Speaker), Her Royal Highness Yelzol-Naa Hajia Hawa Salifu, Female Chief and  Paramount Queen-mother of Zabzugu, Dagomba Traditional Council, Northern Region Ghana.

Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie (The President of AQWCLN Ghana), Former Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and currently the Member of Parliament for Ketu South in the Volta Region of Ghana and Prof. Sheila Tlou, a Co-Chair of the Global HIV Prevention Coalition, Co-Chair of Nursing Now Global Campaign, the former UNAIDS Regional Director for Eastern/Southern Africa and a former Minister of Health of Botswana (And many other distinguished guests from across the globe).

We have the pleasure of seeing notable cultural leaders and Traditional rulers representing all the Six African regions of the African World coming to discuss eradicating harmful traditional practices in the communities.

The program is co-organized by the African Queens & Women Cultural Leaders’ Network, The African Royal Kingdoms (The ARK), and the African Views Organization(AQWCLN – The ARK – AV). The program dubbed ‘BEYOND CSW65’ is a follow-up on the observance of the”Commission on the Status of Women,” scheduled to occur on April28, 2021, starting at 2 PM (GMT).
