Tunji-Ojo, who was initially elected in 2019 to represent the Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency, garnered recognition as the chairman of the House Committee on NDDC. His decision to relinquish his parliamentary seat follows his re-election in 2023, a choice driven by his appointment as the new Minister of Interior, effective today.
Reflecting on his journey, Tunji-Ojo expressed gratitude for the trust and mandate bestowed upon him by his constituents. His tenure was marked by a trailblazing spirit, as he took on the task of rewriting the narrative of his constituency. Through tireless effort, he achieved transformative representation by tackling local challenges head-on. Roads, once neglected, now bear testament to his impactful stewardship, with over 100 kilometers of road projects realized, including the Oyinmo by-pass road, the Arigidi Akoko road, and the Auga road, among others.
A staunch believer in community-driven progress, Tunji-Ojo prioritized infrastructural development, supporting vital sectors such as agriculture, health, and security. His initiatives resonated deeply with the grassroots, evident in his empowerment of enterprising market women and provision of educational bursaries for students. The positive imprint of his service extended to the installation of industrial boreholes and the distribution of transformers to local communities.
Legislatively, Tunji-Ojo demonstrated unwavering commitment by drafting and advocating for impactful bills. These efforts yielded significant economic and administrative reforms, reshaping Nigeria’s landscape. His steadfast dedication to these core responsibilities paralleled his dynamic approach to transformative governance.
With his transition to the Ministerial role, Tunji-Ojo acknowledged the trust placed in him by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR). The opportunity to contribute to the realization of the #RenewedHope agenda stands as a source of immense pride for both himself and the communities he represents. He affirmed his belief in President Tinubu’s mandate, eager to lend his expertise to the national cabinet.
As Tunji-Ojo bids farewell to his legislative position, he expressed profound gratitude to his supporters and constituents. The overwhelming mandate granted to him during the recent elections, where he secured over eighty percent of the votes cast, serves as a humbling testament to his hard work.
Though his role as a lawmaker draws to a close, Tunji-Ojo looks forward to embracing the weighty responsibility of his new role. The prospect of giving back to Nigeria and its citizens, both domestically and internationally, fuels his determination to make a lasting impact.
