Flood Overtakes Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Causing Gridlock

A heavy downpour on Thursday afternoon led to flooding on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, causing significant traffic congestion. The long bridge at Warewa was particularly affected, with vehicles struggling to navigate the floodwaters. Many houses in the area were also submerged.

Commuters experienced considerable discomfort, with some opting to walk for long distances. Motorcycle riders took advantage of the situation, offering rides to stranded passengers.

This is not the first time the bridge has experienced flooding, and residents are appealing to the government to find a solution. The prolonged construction period has also had a significant impact on the community.

Other areas affected by the flood include Akowonjo, Wempco Road, Egbeda, and Lekki in Lagos State, as well as Akute, Lotto, Pakuro, Ijere, and other flood-prone regions in Ogun State. The Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and Ikeja in Lagos State were also impacted.

The government has been urged to take action to address the frequent flooding on the bridge and provide relief to affected communities.
