Military Destroys 43 Illegal Refining Sites, Arrests 32 Suspected Oil Thieves

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that troops of Operation Delta Safe have destroyed 43 illegal refining sites and apprehended 32 suspected oil thieves in the Niger Delta region. The troops also recovered large quantities of stolen products, including 728,360 litres of crude oil, 143,450 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 18,750 litres of PMS.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, made this known while briefing journalists on the operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in Abuja. He added that the troops discovered and destroyed 29 dugout pits, 22 boats, and 26 storage tanks, and apprehended violent extremists/cultists in various local government areas.

The military’s efforts are aimed at tackling the illegal refining and theft of crude oil in the region. The destruction of the illegal refining sites and the arrest of the suspected oil thieves are a significant step in this direction. The military’s operations are ongoing, and it is expected that more illegal refining sites will be destroyed, and more suspects will be apprehended in the coming days.
