A recent survey has shown that the price of cooking gas in Nigeria has dropped to its lowest point in four months. The average price of cooking gas is now below N900 per kilogramme, a significant reduction from its previous high of N1,300 per kilogramme.
According to market dealers, the reduction in price is due to a combination of government actions, including the removal of Value Added Tax (VAT) and import duty on cooking gas, and the relative stability of the naira to the dollar in the foreign exchange market. The government has also begun the free distribution of one million unrestrained LPG cylinders nationwide to enhance access to cooking gas.
Dealers have confirmed the reduction in price, stating that they are now accessing foreign exchange relatively easily in the official market, making importation easier. However, they have called on the government to sustain its efforts to keep the price reduced and ensure cooking gas remains affordable for Nigerians.
This development is a welcome relief for many Nigerians who have been struggling with the high cost of cooking gas. The government’s intervention has made cooking gas more affordable and accessible, and it is hoped that this will have a positive impact on the lives of many Nigerians.
