Nigerian President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to visit China next week, where he will hold discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The talks will focus on strengthening economic ties, advancing agricultural initiatives, and enhancing satellite technology collaboration between Nigeria and China.
President Tinubu’s visit is a key part of the China-Africa Cooperation Summit, which brings together leaders from across Africa to engage with Chinese officials on various strategic issues. During his stay, Tinubu will visit major Chinese companies, including Huawei Technologies and the China Railway Construction Corporation. These visits align with Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to complete a high-speed rail project that will link the capital city, Abuja, to Ibadan in the southwest.
In addition to his meetings with President Xi, Tinubu will engage with CEOs from ten leading Chinese firms spanning sectors such as information and communication technology (ICT), oil and gas, and aluminum production. Nigeria is eager to attract foreign investment to revive its economy, which is currently facing significant challenges, including high inflation, shortages of foreign currency, and widespread crude oil theft.
This visit underscores Nigeria’s commitment to deepening its economic relationship with China, as the country looks for new avenues to bolster its economic recovery.
