On Saturday, September 7th, the Government and people of Barbados will come together to celebrate Africa-CARICOM Day 2024. The day will mark a significant occasion to honor the growing ties between Africa and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Two key events will highlight the celebrations: a flag-raising ceremony and a live television broadcast.
The celebrations will begin with an outdoor flag-raising ceremony at Government Headquarters on Bay Street, starting at 10 AM. The event will see the flags of the African Union (AU), the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and the Republic of Barbados hoisted to the sound of national anthems. The AU anthem, the national anthem of Barbados, and the official CARICOM song will all be performed.
High-level representatives from the African Union, CARICOM, and Barbados will be present to deliver remarks, emphasizing the importance of the relationships between these regions. The ceremony will also feature cultural performances by some of Barbados’ leading artistes. The public is encouraged to attend.
Later in the evening, at 7:30 PM, the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) will air a special live television programme. This broadcast will bring together participants from Kenya, Ethiopia, Liberia, Ghana, CARICOM, and Barbados to discuss a variety of Pan-African development initiatives and projects.
This celebration of Africa-CARICOM Day highlights the continued efforts to strengthen ties between Africa and the Caribbean, with a focus on shared cultural heritage and development goals.
