The Arewa Youth Vanguard (AYV) has voiced strong opposition to recent calls for emergency rule in Zamfara State, warning that such a move could destabilize the region and undo recent security gains.
In a statement issued by its national coordinator, Lawal Dantala Mani, AYV highlighted what it described as “marked improvements” in security across parts of Northern Nigeria, including the once perilous Kaduna-Abuja highway. The group commended security agencies for their efforts and emphasized that these achievements should be consolidated, not undermined.
“We are deeply concerned about the implications of such actions. These calls for emergency rule not only sow discord but also threaten the credibility of our national security framework,” the statement read.
AYV expressed concern about political opportunism, cautioning against the appointment of unqualified individuals to strategic national roles. The group argued that incompetence driven by power-lust jeopardizes the very institutions meant to protect citizens.
The organization further urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, and the Ministry of Defence to act decisively to restore law and order in Zamfara State without resorting to emergency governance. They also called for a thorough investigation into allegations that some top government appointees are involved in spreading false information that undermines national security.
“This is not the time for reckless political games. We demand qualified, people-focused leadership that prioritizes national stability,” the statement concluded.
