The All Nigerian Community (ANC) in Ghana has proposed the launch of a Welfare Identity Card aimed at enhancing the security, welfare, and representation of Nigerians living in Ghana.
Unveiled during a recent leadership meeting, the ANC Welfare Identity Card is designed to provide structure, ensure credibility, and streamline welfare delivery to thousands of Nigerians residing across Ghana.
“This proposed Identity card should not be seen as an imposition,it is a forward- thinking initiative aimed at promoting unity,security and proper representation for all Nigerians living in Ghana.” ANC publicity Secretary said
From Nigerian Eye newspaper’s reporters investigation, the ANC-Ghana Welfacre Card covers several key benefits mainly on four pillars of Credibility,Security, Access and Coordination. It promises its holders gives Nigerian community in Ghana a structured and recognised identity in Ghana.
Card Benefits and Features
The card, priced at GHC 300 for first-time registration and GHC 200 annually for renewal, includes a wide range of benefits:
- Healthcare coverage: Up to GHC 2,000 annually.
- Disability support: Regular (GHC 96/week), Premium (GHC 206/week).
- Death benefits: Regular (GHC 5,000), Premium (GHC 10,000).
According to ANC leadership, this card will also serve to distinguish legitimate Nigerian residents from imposters, strengthening community trust and security.
Mixed Reactions from the Community
While some hailed the initiative as timely and necessary, few Nigerians in Ghana voiced strong reservations about the cost, overlap with other IDs .
Despite mixed grassroots feedback, members of the communities ,and state meetings, comprising of all Nigeria Community Ghana have shown support for the card as many believes that structured welfare programs like this can bring stability and dignity to Nigerians abroad.
ANC’s Response and Next Steps
In response, the ANC leadership has promised openness and accountability. A Town Hall Meeting and Community Summit have been scheduled where Nigerians in Ghana can freely express their views and seek clarity on the initiative.
“We understand the concerns, and this is why we are inviting everyone to a summit. No voice will be ignored,” said ANC President Dr. Asaolu.
The proposed card has already received support from religious organizations and partner groups like the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO). In a recent joint meeting, NIDO executives pledged to collaborate on the Welfare Card project, ensuring wider acceptance and support within the diaspora.
What’s Next?
The coming weeks or months depending on the date of the townhall meeting will be crucial for the success of the ANC Welfare Card. As dialogue opens at the summit, its future will depend on how well ANC addresses the concerns of the Nigerian population in Ghana.
“This card is more than just ID—it’s about welfare, identity, and unity,” said a member of the ANC executive. Whether the initiative succeeds or faces revision, one thing is certain: Nigerian voices will shape its outcome.
