Katsina Police Rescue 73, Arrest 175 in May Crackdown

The Katsina State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of seventy-three kidnapped persons and the arrest of one hundred and seventy-five suspects in May 2025 alone. This was disclosed by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, in a statement released on Thursday, June 13, 2025.

According to the statement, the arrests and rescues were part of the command’s intensified efforts to clamp down on criminal activities within the state and maintain public safety.

Among the suspects arrested, fifteen were linked to armed robbery cases, one to kidnapping, twenty to murder and culpable homicide, and thirty others were involved in rape-related incidents. Additionally, 108 suspects were arrested in connection with other unclassified crimes.

ASP Sadiq noted that the achievements followed the proactive strategies adopted by the police under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu. He also emphasized the vital role of collaboration with local communities and the state government in making the operation a success.

“These achievements would not have been possible without the support of the State Government and the good people of Katsina,” Sadiq stated.

He went on to express appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his continuous backing of the Katsina Command’s operations.

“I want to use this medium to appreciate our amiable Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his unflinching support to the command,” the spokesperson added.

Recovered items from the suspects include one locally fabricated AK-49 rifle, one locally made revolver pistol, 506 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, two suspected stolen motorcycles, and 174 suspected rustled animals.

The command emphasized that its success was driven by “several strategies” employed in active policing and intelligence gathering, all coordinated under CP Bello Shehu’s leadership.

ASP Sadiq called on the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies and report suspicious activities, stating:

“We solicit more support and cooperation from the members of the public to enable us to further improve on these successes. We urge the public to continue reporting suspicious activities and crimes to the nearest police station or use our emergency numbers.”

The emergency numbers provided by the command include:

1. 081569777772

2. 090222096903

3. 07072722539

He concluded by reaffirming the command’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents in Katsina State.

The statement serves as a reassurance of the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to curb insecurity, especially in regions affected by banditry and kidnapping.

With continued collaboration between security agencies and the public, the command believes that peace and stability can be further achieved across the state.
