Renowned musician Nkumu Katalay has officially released his highly anticipated new single, “Nazo Bela,” now available on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, and other major streaming platforms.

The song delves into themes of longing and nostalgia, reflecting Nkumu’s deep emotional connection to his homeland, the Democratic Republic of Congo. The poignant refrain, “nazo bela” (meaning “I am not well”), resonates with many in the diaspora, capturing the emotional weight of separation from one’s roots.

 

“Nazo Bela” showcases a unique fusion of traditional Congolese rhythms with modern Afro-jazz influences, delivering a powerful and moving listening experience. The track features an impressive full band, including:

The single was recorded at City College’s Sonic Art Center Shepard Hall, with lead engineer Maxwell Fleischman, assisted by Thomas Murphy and Jack Vellon**, and mixed and mastered by Joel Manitou.
