Akwa Ibom Governor Eno Dumps PDP, Joins APC

Uyo, Akwa Ibom – June 6, 2025

In a major political development, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno**, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Eno made the announcement during a high-profile ceremony held on Friday in Uyo, the state capital. The event was attended by top APC leaders, including the Chairman of the APC Governors Forum, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, and several party chieftains.

In his address, Governor Eno clarified that his defection was not a sign of political weakness or pressure but a strategic realignment to better serve the state and align with national politics.

“We’re not joining the APC from a position of weakness, but from a position of strength. We’re bringing value to Akwa Ibom State. We’ve come into the APC with a ministry of reconciliation,” Governor Eno stated.

Governor Eno’s defection is expected to reshape the political landscape of Akwa Ibom State and fuel national conversations about upcoming elections and political dynamics within the South-South region.

The Governor emphasized that his administration remains committed to good governance and that the move will help attract more federal attention and developmental benefits to Akwa Ibom.

While reactions from PDP leaders are still unfolding, political analysts believe this move could deepen internal divisions within the opposition party, especially in the South-South zone.

As of the time of this report, PDP leadership at both state and national levels are yet to release an official statement in response to Governor Eno’s defection. However, sources close to the party hint at emergency consultations and internal strategy sessions.

More details to follow as the story develops…
