IBADAN – The Olubadan of Ibadanland, H.I.M Oba Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin Ige Olakulehin I, has carried out his first official duty as the Olubadan by crowning Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja as a beaded crown Oba.
The coronation ceremony took place on Monday at the new Olubadan palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area. Acting Governor of Oyo State, H.E. Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, presented the staff of office and certificate to the newly crowned monarch on behalf of the State Government.
The event was attended by members of the Olubadan-in-Council, family heads, political office holders, and well-wishers. During his speech, the Olubadan emphasized the importance of unity among the Ibadan kingmakers, which he believes will lead to peace and progress in the region.
“My reign is starting on a very harmonious note, and with all kingmakers aligned, we look forward to positive developments for Ibadan Land,” said Oba Olakulehin.
Acting Governor Lawal praised the people of Ibadan for their role in this development and reiterated the State Government’s commitment to strengthening the traditional institution in the state.
In his response, the newly crowned Oba Ladoja highlighted Ibadan’s ability to resolve misunderstandings internally and emphasized the changes that will come with his ascension.
Oba Ladoja had previously declined the beaded crown offered by the Ajimobi and Makinde administrations until the recent amendment to the Ibadan Chieftaincy Declaration by the Makinde administration, which mandates that only a beaded crown Oba can become the Olubadan.
